UNESCO is accepting applications for its second online course on quantum science and technology, “Qubits: Platforms and Quantum Ecosystems”. The free course will be held via Zoom on 23–27 November 2026. It has been designed and will be delivered by Dr Maria Longobardi of the University of Basel (NCCR SPIN). The programme consists of four technical lectures and an ecosystem seminar:

  • From quantum mechanics to qubits
  • Superconducting qubits
  • Spin qubits and other platforms, including trapped-ion, photonic and neutral-atom approaches
  • Quantum sensing and emerging applications
  • International quantum ecosystems

The course is intended for master’s students, PhD students and early-career postdoctoral researchers with a foundational background in quantum science. Selection of the 30–40 participants will take into account geographic diversity and gender balance. Priority will be given to applicants from the Global South and from regions underserved by existing quantum training opportunities. Participants completing the course will be offered a mentorship opportunity. The application deadline is 31 October 2026, and participants will be announced in mid-November 2026.
