According to ScienceDaily, an international team demonstrated time-bin encoded quantum key distribution over 120 km of standard fiber using a semiconductor quantum-dot single-photon source operating at telecom wavelengths; the maximum reported distance was 127 km.
The approach strengthens the potential for long-distance QKD based on single-photon sources as an alternative to weak coherent pulse methods.
