To demonstrate, under field conditions, the feasibility of quantum key distribution (QKD) on a live telecommunications infrastructure.
A field demonstration conducted in İstanbul in 02.2025, over a fiber-optic link between the European and Asian sides; it was announced as the world's first terrestrial intercontinental QKD. It is a trial/demonstration, not a permanent operational service.
